Anesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology at New York Medical College is committed to excellence in clinical care, education, research, and all other academic pursuits. With more than 75 full-time faculty members, the Department offers impressive depth and breadth in its educational programs and clinical opportunities. A majority of the faculty are fellowship-trained.

Research

Members of the Department annually present papers at national and international meetings, as well as publish papers in peer-reviewed journals on a range of topics that showcase advances in the field. Medical students work alongside faculty on a variety of research projects. The Annual Research Symposium hosted by the student-led Anesthesiology Interest Group offers medical students the opportunity to present their research to attending physicians and residents in the Department.

Medical Student Education

Anesthesiology faculty teach during the preclinical years as part of the foundational courses. During their third and fourth year at NYMC, medical students can choose to pursue an elective that encompasses the scope of practice of anesthesiologists, including pre-operative evaluation, airway management, pain management, anesthetic pharmacology, and basic and invasive monitoring. The fourth-year elective also offers the opportunity to explore anesthetic subspecialties, such as cardiac, pediatrics, and obstetrics. An elective in pain medicine is also available to fourth-year students.

Anesthesiology Residency Program

The NYMC Anesthesiology Residency Program at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan spans unique hospitals that serve multi-ethnic, multi-cultural communities, to provide care sensitively and compassionately to maintain human dignity in various settings. Emphasis is on teamwork to provide the highest quality of patient care through teaching and continuous learning. Learn more about the NYMC Anesthesiology Residency Program.
