Research
Dr. Rabadi’s laboratory investigates the mechanisms underlying acute and chronic kidney failure and related vascular dysfunction, with an emphasis on identifying factors that drive disease onset and progression. The lab’s work examines how fetal and developmental programming, including impaired placental development, predisposes individuals to kidney disease and hypertension later in life. It also focuses on the role of oxidative stress in initiating and worsening kidney and vascular injury, as well as the involvement of pro-damage signaling molecules, or “alarmins” such as HMGB1, which are released during cellular stress and trigger inflammatory responses that exacerbate tissue damage.
