M.S. in Biostatistics Admissions
How to Apply
Applications for this program go through SOPHAS, the centralized Public Health application service. Begin your application and submit relevant documents through the SOPHAS portal.
What You’ll Need for Your Application
Submit the following materials through SOPHAS. GRE scores are not required to apply to this program.
- Transcripts of your undergraduate course work. Quantitative courses in algebra, mathematics, statistics, or research methods are recommended
- Two (2) letters of recommendation
- Personal statement
- Resume
Application Deadlines
Full-time students, or students taking 4 courses, begin their program in the fall (late August). Part-time students, or students taking 3 courses, may begin in the fall or spring (January) term. All applications must be submitted before the following dates:
- Fall Term Application Deadline: August 1
- Spring Term Application Deadline: December 1
Admissions Requirements & What We’re Looking For
All of the following factors are considered in the admissions process:
- All applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from an accredited university
- GPA – Most successful applicants to the MS in Biostatistics earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in their undergraduate programs.
- Work experience
- Community involvement
- Extracurricular activities
- Strong quantitative ability
- Passion for public health – understanding and appreciation of the field, clear desire to be involved with improving the health of your community
The M.S. in Biostatistics is a strongly quantitative program. While no particular major is required for admission, the faculty encourages applicants with backgrounds in the following areas:
- Mathematics
- Chemistry
- Finance
- Accounting
- Experimental Psychology
- Computer Science
- Information Systems
- Physics
