José, a doctoral candidate in Public Health, is starting his second semester at New York Medical College. His interests include the social determinants of health, minority health, Latino health, and mental health. José is bilingual, with an interest in bridging the health gap between access to healthcare and language barriers within the Latino community. During his Master’s programs, José developed an understanding of how the social determinants of health can directly affect one’s physiological well-being and play a role in the development of chronic diseases. José’s skills include qualitative mixed-methods research, recruitment processes, Spanish translation, health services research, and research methodology.

José is currently a Spanish Health Care Coordinator at the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, a not-for-profit, minority community-based organization. In this role, he provides medical, behavioral, and social resources to medicaid recipients. José has also worked as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Northwell Health's Community Health & Health Services Research division, leading an innovative clinical randomized controlled mixed-methods study on the effectiveness of adopting a diabetes telehealth management program for Hispanic/Latino patients with Type 2 Diabetes in underserved communities on Long Island. He hopes to continue researching within the Latino community and improve the lives of its members.
