Prior to commencing the DrPh program, Ansong worked in the water environment (water pollution control) industry. His interest and focus were in using technology and science to treat the incoming waste water before release into the public domain and thereby make it safer for the eco-system, the environment and human health.

Ansong is also the founder of three start-ups in Ghana namely, Integrated Biotechnologies, Beta Biomass and Precision Nutrition. The goal for these start-ups is to boost rural economies and raise the living conditions of people in those communities. Precision Nutrition provides ingredients that fortifies local foods to produce healthy bodies. Beta Biomass converts waste agricultural products into usable value-added products thus cleaning the environment as well as generating incomes for the local people. Integrated Biotechnologies transforms agricultural raw materials into value-added products. The success of all these enterprises in many ways depends on good climate, good eco-system and safe environment which in the end impact the health of the community and health care per se (delivery and cost).

It is for the above reasons plus knowledge gained from university-based research into impacts of air pollution and rodents’ infestation on community health and economies that have propelled Ansong's interest in the Health Policy and Management program. Malnutrition, low income and contaminated environment (water, air pollution and rodent infestation) have synergistic socioeconomic effect on health outcomes and hence require good health policies and management practices as tools to control them.
