SOM Academic Calendar
Below are the School of Medicine (SOM) academic calendars for each class, or medical student year. They give a good overview of a typical medical student's education across four years at NYMC SOM.
The calendar and schedules are subject to change and NYMC reserves the right to reschedule classes during the academic year, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., as special situations warrant.

NBME Subject Exams are administered on the final Friday of each clerkship at 8:00 am unless there is a scheduling conflict (e.g., observed holiday, snow closure)

During the clinical years, students are expected to follow the schedules of their clinical teams and not campus closures. Holiday observance schedules in Year 3 & Year 4 are determined by the hospital, team, and clerkship director, except for the Thanksgiving Break period (Thursday – Sunday, 11/28/24 – 12/1/24).

Students are required to enroll in both the Transition to Year Four and Transition to Residency courses and complete 36 additional curricular weeks during the fourth year.
- Curricular Requirements include TWO required subspecialty track rotations PLUS seven additional, four-week electives (Total 36 weeks)
- Attendance required for Transition to Year 4 and Transition to Residency Courses
During the clinical years, students are expected to follow the schedules of their clinical teams and not campus closures. Holiday observance schedules in Year 3 & Year 4 are determined by the hospital, team, and clerkship director, except for the Thanksgiving Break period (Thursday - Sunday, 11/28/24 – 12/1/24).
