The Dean’s Faculty Awards recognize full-time faculty who demonstrate exceptional achievement in teaching, mentoring, community engagement, or professional impact, reflecting the highest standards of dedication, innovation, and service to the NYMC community.

Outstanding Achievement Award

Eligibility

  • Full-time faculty members in good standing
  • (1) faculty awardee will be selected independent of basic or clinical science designations; preference will be given to faculty with at least (5) or more years’ service to the College and the SOM; typically, at professor level rank

CRITERIA

  • Demonstrates commitment to NYMC SOM’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Demonstrates leadership, accomplishment, and recognition in academic areas of endeavor.   
  • Demonstrates outstanding reliability and cooperation; collaborative/team-based/translational, etc., achievements are essential criteria.
  • Exemplifies a high standard of scholarship and/or service worthy of recognition due to the level of campus, local, community, and national.
  • They are well-known as an exemplar of the institution’s core values at a superior level, continually fostering pride, professionalism, and standing of the College and the SOM.
  • They are well-known as a model of the institution’s core values, continually fostering pride, professionalism, and the standing of the SOM.
  • Their contributions have not only advanced the field but also elevated the reputation of the institution on a global scale.

Excellence in Community Engagement

Eligibility

  • Full-time faculty members in good standing
  • (1) faculty awardee will be selected independent of basic or clinical science designations; preference will be given to faculty with at least (2) or more years of service to the College and the SOM; open to all rank levels.

CRITERIA

  • Demonstrates commitment to NYMC SOM’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Creates, maintains, and demonstrates to the campus and larger community the ability to actively engage with the community to identify challenges and opportunities, striving to positively impact various populations.
  • They partner with community, governmental, and other agencies to advocate for improved outcomes for individuals and groups.
  • They are dedicated to advancing their own career development through the continuous acquisition and implementation of innovative and inspired approaches to community building, organizing, and engagement.
  • Their exceptional commitment to promoting, guiding, and inspiring student curiosity and advocacy for their people, populations, and communities is evident in their active involvement and leadership.
  • Their efforts have made a significant difference, fostering a supportive and growth-oriented environment for all.

Excellence in Teaching Award (Basic Science and Clinical)

ELIGIBILITY

  • Full-time faculty members in good standing with a minimum of (3) consecutive years of continuous service; typically, at associate level rank or higher
  • Up to (1) basic science and one (1) clinical science faculty award will be selected.

CRITERIA

  • Surpasses performance requirements of their position with distinction and merit.
  • Earns recognition from students, peers, and administration as a highly effective and well-regarded teacher.
  • They are dedicated to advancing their own career development through the continuous acquisition and implementation of innovative and inspired approaches to teaching.
  • Their passion for education and dedication to excellence make them a true asset to the institution.
  • They consistently surpass the performance requirements of their position with distinction and merit, earning recognition from students, peers, and administration as a highly effective and well-regarded teacher.
  • They show exceptional commitment to and involvement in teaching, fostering an environment that promotes academic curiosity and the development of their students. 

Excellence in Mentoring Award (Basic Science and Clinical)

ELIGIBILITY

  • Full-time faculty members in good standing with a minimum of (3) consecutive years of continuous service; typically, at associate level rank or higher
  • Up to (1) basic science and one (1) clinical science faculty award will be selected.

CRITERIA

  • Surpasses performance requirements of their position with distinction and merit.
  • Advances their own career development through dedicated mentoring, advising, and counseling, serving as an exemplary professional role model.
  • Contributes directly or indirectly to the advancement of the mentee/advisee as evidenced by abstracts, presentations, publications, or fellowships, etc.
  • They continuously seek innovative and inspired approaches to mentoring, ensuring their methods are both effective and impactful.
  • Their exceptional commitment to mentoring and advising is evident in their active involvement in promoting the professional development of their mentees and advisees, fostering a supportive and growth-oriented environment.
